At WeeDo, we are proud that the proportion of recycled old clothing fibers is now at 55%. This is a great development towards more sustainable textile production and thus a better future for our children. With continued extraordinary and colorful designs and a large portion of innovation, we want to make the world a little more colorful, imaginative and sustainable. The demand for recycled polyester is increasing rapidly, but the supply cannot keep up. It should be clear to everyone that we have to recycle more than just PET bottles. We are making use of the raw material that is available in abundance and are using textile waste for the first time to produce new products. Protecting the environment while maintaining the same quality not only makes sense, it is also fun.
"In 2015, the fashion industry generated 92 million tonnes of textile waste from around the world."
The demand for recycled polyester is increasing rapidly, but the supply cannot keep up. We need to recycle more than just PET bottles. There is enough raw material we can use from all this textile waste.
CHEMICAL METHOD FOR THE RECYCLING PROCESS OF OLD CLOTHING FABRICS
This process makes the recycled old clothing of a quality compatible with that of new polyester. The quality is not changed. The user does not have to worry about the problem of recycling other materials, such as dyeing. It is often misunderstood that "chemical recycling" involves the use of dangerous chemicals. The RENU Chemical Recycled Polyester process meets the requirements of OEKO TEX® Standard 100, currently set out in Annex 4. Chemical recycling involves breaking down the polymer chains of plastic waste through chemical reactions.
The chemical recycling technology applied by RENU enables the reprocessing of textile waste into new, compatible and high-quality recycled materials - some of the main advantages of chemically recycled polyester:
